Novak posts 2nd shutout as Norskies blank Iron Rangers
HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Sam Novak turned aside all 33 shots he faced to post his second shutout of the season Wednesday as the Thief River Norskies blanked the Minnesota Iron Rangers 3-0 in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.
It took Thief River Falls just 40 seconds to pick-up the eventual game-winner as Mitchell Soderberg buried his 20th tally of the campaign.
Michael Johnson then reached the 20-goal plateau himself for the Norskies eight minutes later to put the visitors up by two.
Cameron Jones then supplied the final marker of the contest midway through the middle session as he picked up his second of 2016-17.
Novak did the rest in securing the victory.
Jackson Nelson turned in a solid performance in goal for the Iron Rangers, despite the defeat as he faced 52 Thief River Falls’ shots along the way.
With the result the Norskies moved to within one point of the idle English River Miners for third spot in the SIJHL standings and also hold one game in hand.
