Iron Rangers’ Olschewske commits to NCAA D-III program

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Minnesota Iron Rangers of the Superior International Junior Hockey League have announced that defenceman Isaiah Olschewske has committed to attend school at Bryn Athyn College in Pennsylvania and play for the Lions’ newly-minted NCAA Division III program.

The 20-year-old Buffalo, N.Y., product saw action in 44 SIJHL contests this season with the Iron Rangers picking up 24 points on six goals and 18 assists.

In 92 career SIJHL games, which included 20 with the Fort Frances Lakers, Olschewske notched 13 tallies and helped set-up 33 more on defence.

Todd Kreibich, recently promoted to Iron Rangers head coach and general manager, offered his thoughts on Olschewske’s NCAA commitment.

“Isiah was one of three players to return to the Iron Rangers in 2016-17 and was a mainstay on the blue line,” offered Kreibich.

“Isiah logged the most minutes of all the players on the team and his strengths are his speed and his ability to see the ice and make plays. He’s a fierce competitor who never gives up, who pushes himself and his teammates to never give up and fight to the end, win or lose,” added the new Minnesota bench boss.

“The Lions are getting a very talented and hardworking individual for next year. The Iron Rangers organization wishes Isiah the best of luck in all his future endeavors.”

After competing out of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, the Bryn Athyn program is gearing up to make the move to NCAA D-III ranks beginning in the 2017-18 campaign.

The Lions final season in the ACHA came to an end last week as they fell 4-2 in semifinal action in their conference Final Four appearance against Aquinas College.
